STEVIE

Stevie: Featured Project

Stevie is the directorial debut of McKenna Fernandez. She also cowrote and is the process of editing. This film is her dissertation and will be submitted to various festivals in the UK, USA, Portugal, and Canada. Stevie is expected to be released at the end of May 2017. 


McKenna experienced the trials of not only directing and writing for the first time, but also directing an eight year old girl as the main character. Another challenge was the many locations all set in Liverpool, a place unfamiliar to the director.

​

Stevie is the story of an 8 year old girl who is about to see for the first time. She lives like any other 'normal' girl, but her recently widowed father feels Stevie needs surgery so she can live 'normally'. Unbeknown to her father, Stevie is happy the way she is, but goes ahead with the surgery anyway because she knows how happy it would make her dad.
